Mercy

She pressed his head against her chest, gently rocking. His once furrowed brow relaxed as she whispered loving memories of a bygone time. Their first kiss. The sparkle in his eye outshining her diamond ring. His first sincere apology. His last. She injected one more dose just to be sure.

Tonight he won’t hurt her.

Tonight, he will finally find peace.
